De wowfactor die je zou mogen verwachten, afgaande op de promotieteksten en loftuitingen, ontbreekt. Dat gemis werkt door in de aspecten spanning, plot en originaliteit en maakt dat De droogte weliswaar een heerlijk boek is om te lezen, maar geen topper.'
