Van Jasper Fforde komt een nieuwe roman en dit keer geen start of onderdeel van een van zijn series. Fforde debuteerde in 2001 met het eerste deel in zijn Thursday Next-serie, The Eyre Affair, vertaald als De Zaak Jane Eyre. Deze humoristische serie is een musthave voor boekenliefhebbers, want je ervaart de meest levendige literatuur ooit in deze boeken. Letterlijk, want je kunt verdwalen in boeken en in dit eerste deel worden personages gekidnapped. Helaas en blijkbaar sloeg de serie in Nederlandse vertaling niet aan en is er nooit weer een boek van Fforde vertaald. Zonde. En nu is er Early Riser, een standalone waarin de mensheid een soort is die aan winterslaap doet om te overleven.

Van Brookmyre zijn de eerste twee delen van zijn crimereeks Jasmine Sharp vertaald, maar daar is de uitgeverij mee gestopt. Dokter Haetzman is zijn vrouw en het is dankzij haar research dat de bodem werd gelegd voor deze roman.
