beautifully written healing fiction

Anita 09 augustus 2024
‘ A life surrounded by good people is a successful life. It might not be success as defined by society, but thanks to the people around you, each day is a successful day.’

This type of novel is called “healing fiction” since it calms you and slows you down. A perfect read for a quiet evening with a cup of tea…. It’s filled with wonderful sentences that make you think about life. It’s a story about multiple characters all coming together in Yeongju’s bookshop who are struggling with certain life issues like divorce or trying to find a suitable job. They all feel some kind of social pressure to perform better or behave in a certain way, and are discovering what actually makes them truly happy. The side characters all face their own problems but they also bond because of it and find comfort talking in the bookshop and enjoy the atmosphere there. We get to know each of them well, and I also loved the meaningful conversations they had with each other which made them see different sides of their struggles and learn how to deal with it. And that it’s ok to choose what’s right for you and slow down.

The story in short:
Yeongju has given up her old life and just openend a bookstore. She divorced her husband and quit her demanding job to fulfill a lifelong dream. She feels exhausted and is struggling to make the bookshop a success. Bit by bit new people come into her life, each with their own problems, who help her manage the shop - and her life.

NB: there are two different covers for this book, a daytime cover and a nighttime cover!
