Genre: fiction; mental health awareness
Cover and blurb:
I see a man on the back. Sitting with his arms on his legs ad his head slightly bend. Around him two cabinets which are filled with files. The black is beautifully combined with the purple of the title.
The blurb is intense bit also makes me curious about this book.

The new generational trauma
Someone had simoly labeled the next file as ‘family’. Right beneath it, someone had annotated the word ‘brothers’. Like the extra’s didn’t bother him. He didn’t feel like breathing, anyway. With the file in his hands, she looked up at him expectantly, like this was the proper start, the real beginning. This was where memories stemmes from. Doubt made him step back. Did he really want to dive in the depravaties he buried six feet under years ago? Along with…well…everything.
Beautiful texts:
All journeys begin with that scary first step. A journey towards healing isn’t any different.
He who never lies, has never lived
Hugo Claus
So whatever you are doing, wherever you are going, whatever your plans me be: Stay safe
I’ll gladly come sit in the dark with you.
A.N. Archy
Happiness van be found even in the darkest of places
If only one remembers to turn on the light
Albus Dumbledore
The story:
What do you do when you find yourself in a dark room?
You turn on the light.
He finds himself in a room with a single file cabinet, filled to the brim with files. And a woman he’s never seen or met yet. Together, they go on an adventure through all his memories, clearing things up and raising more questions. Along the way, he tells his story.
Not a pretty one.
Cabinet of Confessions tells the story of a man who is entangled in a macabre dance with the ghosts of his past and finally faces the truth. Not used to talking, he uses music to get his meaning across.
Healing? Redemption? Is it simply at the back of a file cabinet?
Get carried away in this whirlwind of a telling. Beware of strong triggers, which can be found inside the book, they aren’t for the light of hearted.
My reading experience:
This book starts with a warning not to read this book when you have mental health issues or if you experienced similait things like the main character.
The inside of the book has alot of impressive black and white pages with images that touch me. The texts in there are meaningful and have something important tot tell. Something that you will not easily forget.
I have mental health issues (PTSS, depression, post partum, psychoses) but I found reading this book so reflective, as a warm blanket of comfort, not beeing alone. This mental awareness especially for men is so good. I think my husband suffered aswell during my mental health issues, and he also has PTSS cos we lost our son. But like you said he hides it well like a cave man....My husband has a sweet soul but he has to be in control; the so called man of the house. Eventough I told him so often to relax.
This book follows a young man who puts files out of a cabinet. The files are about his own life. Experiences he went through. Actually a very deep travel trough his mind, the character that makes him the human being that people see on the outside. He is supported by a woman who seems to know all about him. She asks all the questions and lets him reflect on everything he feels, thinks, does, experiences, suffers from etc.
I recognized a whole lot in the live story of this young man. It was imaginably written and it touched me very deep. Sometimes it made my own trauma and sadness come up making me go back in my thoughts. Horrific yes bit also helpful, I no longer felt alone in my mental health battle. I learned that talking honestly about my feelings is the best way to feel better eventually.
Besides mental health issues I suffer from not born with brain damage. That makes my daily life and my emotional world even more complex. The times of not beeing able to be present mentally in daily life because it is too overwhelming is something I recognized too in this book. I often get lost in a parallel world or in books to find back relaxation and peace in myself.
The live of the young man is not only about roses and moobshine. Where there is deep rooted love and passion for a special person in his life I am happy for him. But when heartbreaking events take place and make that he looses it all I felt my own heart bleeding. And shattered in a thousand pieces a many points in the book. Because my heart reached out so much for the young man. That shows the huge talent of telling a story by An Archy.
Shortly after finishing this book we learned that a woman who was acquainted to my husband, especially his sister, tragically passed away because she took matters in her own hands and jumped in front of a train. The service of het funeral we watched was heartbreaking. She was such a sweet, strong and wonderful woman. But live gave her alot to bear. Despite all help and love she received she made this decision. Me and my husband hope she may rest in peace now. We do not judge her decision we only feel a deep sadness for the fact the earth had to let go a wonderful woman and gave her her angle wings too soon.
May God be with her sons, husband and all the family, friends and acquaintances who loved her. Do not let the shame rule. There is nothing to be ashamed of. Unlike physical illness a mental illness also can be lethal. And you are not stronger if you do not dare to do the same thing. And also not weaker if you do. People should judge less and help, listen, love and stand by people with mental health issues more. I have alot of respect for the way the sons sins husband gave a personal touch of love to the service of their mother and wife, a last goodbye.
I adored the epilogue and explanation behind it all. Everything got a clear explanation. Made visible and it once again touched my heart and soul.
My opinion:
I rate this book with 5 stars.
Every chapter in this book is thoroughly and well written. It touched my heart and soul. Made me cry, laugh, angry and let me reflect my own life. Although this book is filled with triggers I can find myself in it felt like beeing heard, beeing held in a warm blanket against the safe chest of a person that is convinced my life has a meaning and is valuable enough to live.
Thank you An Archy for letting me read and review your book.
I am looking forward to more books written by you.
