Continueing the Path of Increasing Peril

EricWijnen 22 september 2024
Raymond Elias Feist (born Raymond Elias Gonzales III, on december 21, 1945) wrote 30 novels on the worlds Midkemia and Kelewan, before starting 'the Firemane Saga' (published 2018 - 2022). He is a well established author and his works are translated in multiple languages. He graduated in Communication Arts in 1977. His first book, Magician, was published in 1982.

Raymond Feist has an easily accessible way of writing the story, and that has not changed. The story and the use of his language make sure that new people reading Epic Fantasy for a first time, or reading in English for a first time will have little to no trouble following the story. Those people I will recommend reading a Feist novel.

**** SPOILERS FOR FIREMANE SAGA AHEAD *****

A Darkness Returns is the first book in a new series 'The Dragonwar Saga' and it start off where the 'Firemane Saga' ended. The hints you get when for what happened before, normal for a Feist-book, are a bit lacking at the start of the book. Which is on Sorcerer's Isle on Midkemia. Personally I do not really like Feist reintroducing Pug again at the end of the last book in the 'Firemane Saga', because I do not believe he really needs that connection to create a new and succesful series.

Hatushaly needs education in the arts and gets it on Sorcerer's Isle. Meanwhile on Garn people prepare for new fights, this time with the Church, as the former Pride Lords were put down.

'Uniek aan Wondermond is de keuze van Goemans om een verwende, kortzichtige, mannelijke tiener als hoofdpersonage te nemen in een verhaal dat zo duidelijk stoelt op vrouwenstemmen en verborgen vrouwenleed.'

'Vanhauwaert weet een unieke literaire ervaring te creëren. De inhoud en vorm zijn zo met elkaar versmeed dat ze niet los van elkaar gezien kunnen worden,' zegt de vakjury over het debuut.
