A seriously mad dog
Who hasn't heard of Stephen King must have been living in a cave the last thirty or more years. Who hasn't seen or read a book, film or series based on one of his stories? That certainly goes for Cujo, his tenth published novel. Cujo, was adapted to a movie in 1983, only two years after the publication of the novell, and was directed by Lewis Teague.
In the story, Cujo, a big saint Bernhard dog, is bitten by a bat and catches rabies, slowly turning him into a mad dog. As Stephen King always does, the story is build up slowly, giving the reader the moments to get to know the characters. Both families you see have marital problems.
Cujo was the first book of Stephen King I ever read. And it left a lasting impression. Unfortunalely for me that impression was not repeated. The parts where Cujo is part of the narrative, physicaly or otherwise, are very well written and are the parts that stayed with me the most. The problems the families encounter are written as you might have come to expect from a writer such as Stephen King. You want to keep reading although you might not be as thrilled by it. This is because of the narrative he uses for all his stories.
I do not know if more books have animals as point of view, but only that makes this book already a worthwhile read. Overall I did enjoy the reread of the story. The impression of the book has however been a bit diminished by this reread.
