The future seen through the eyes of the old

EricWijnen 25 augustus 2024
Herbert George Wells, known as H.G. Wells, was born in Kent (London) at the 21th of September 1866. He is most known by his science fiction stories, in particular: The War of the Worlds, The Invisible Man and The Time Machine. But from 1895 until 1945 every year about two or three stories appeared from his hand. H.G. Wells died in 1946.

The Time Machine is a science fiction novella where a person, called the Time Traveller, travels about 800.000 years into the future and back and relates his adventures doing so. It was first pubished in 1895. The first thing that strikes me as weird, is that nobody seems to have a name, all the characters are called by their vocation, like the Scientist, or the Doctor. Although strange at first, this does make the reading of the story easier.

The entire story is told as if someone is sitting next to you and is telling you the story. This is also what makes it 'better' survive the times. Current writers would not show you their story in this way. All in all I liked reading this story.
