In Falling for the Baseball Bayou Next Door by Brooke Benson, Skye runs home after some scandal, only to meet her best friend’s brother again who she had a somewhat crush on when she was younger.
This book I just loved! I immediately was pulled into the story as Skye rushes to get home. You start to wonder what went wrong and that way I kept on reading. The moment she meets Jax, the banter between them is just great! You can tell that they like each other, but both do not want to give in to that, and Jax feels his sister’s best friend is off limits. Jax is a hotshot baseball player and he is a great character. Skye is lovely, but fierce and wants to build her own life, not depending on her family’s wealth. They have such a great chemistry.
When Skye moves in next door to Jax (you have to wonder if that was a set up) they see each other more often, thanks also to the help of an adorable husky, Ghost. That dog is just a great addition to this sweet romance story. What I also loved about this story, is that both have a demanding family and not everyone does understand what both Jax and Skye want to do, but they are very determined. Of course that makes for some drama. The writing style is flowing and the book is easy to read, as are all the other books written by Brooke Benson (yes, I am a fan of her writing style).
As the story progresses you get to know what went wrong and I felt sorry for Skye for what happened. And of course there is also a former girlfriend who makes things complicated.
If you want to read a charming sweet sports romance story, with tropes as best friend’s brother, forced proximity, enemies to lovers, with two likable characters, great banter, some drama, a good story-line, and one lovely dog, you have to read Falling for the Baseball Bayou Next Door. I can’t wait to read the next novel by Brooke Benson.
