Goed einde
In Bright Shadow by Rachel Song is the last novella in The Chanter Novellas series. In this book Yulin has the magical and forbidden Book of Shadows and tries to unravel its mysteries. When she gets transported to another realm, things are getting dangerous very fast and that is why her nemesis Masai offers to help her.
This series I have come to love from the very first book. It is filled with magic and mystery. This book is the same, but in this book all things come together. Rachel Song has done a great job putting all the loose ends in order in this last novella.
I loved the enemies to lovers trope. The banter and growing relationship between Yulin and Masai are great to read. Both are great characters.
When Masai starts to help Yulin uncover the secrets about the book, I had a hard time putting the book down. There is so much mystery and when the evil warlock tries to interfere, things are speeding up again. The writing in In Bright Shadow is flowing and fast paced. Thanks to some unexpected twists in the story, this novella is a really interesting mysterious novel. I also loved that some of the characters of the earlier novellas make an appearance as well. And the world-building in this book and the whole series is fantastic, very well developed and thought out. It is rather unique in my opinion.
In Bright Shadow is a great short fantasy novel, filled with mystery, magic, danger, unexpected turns in a great plot and story-line, wonderful world-building and magic, with great characters and with a flowing writing style. I am a bit sad things are coming to an end, but I have come to love this series. It is a book and series I can recommend to every fantasy reader. But do start with the first novella and take it from there. I know you’ll love reading these novellas. And I can’t wait to see what Rachel Song comes up with next.
