Lezersrecensie
Een fantastische hervertelling van het verhaal over de Minotaurus!
When I finished Bride of the Sun by Jes Drew I immediately wanted to read the next novel in this fantastic Greek mythology retelling series. Now that I have read Princess of the Maze, I want the next book!
Ariadne, Princess of Crete, wants help to slay the Minotaur, a fearful beast living in the tunnels under the palace at Knossos and at the same time help to kill her father, who is cruel and in league with the beast. She summons Dionysus, the God of the Fields and he enters into a bargain with her to find a hero to slay the beast.
From the very first I enjoyed this novel immensely. I love retellings and Greek mythology and Jes Drew once again wrote a superb novel. The banter between the God and Ariadne is just fantastic, because he seems to take nothing very seriously. Dionysus is a fantastic character and loves to rile Ariadne. She is fierce, but thanks to her father who did something horrible, her spirit is broken. Dionisius wants to make her a warrior maiden again, because he likes her very much.
The story, plot and world-building are amazing and I had a really hard time putting the book down. The writing style is flowing, fast paced. All characters come across really well, even the bad ones. There are several twists and unexpected turns in the story, which makes it all even more interesting.
Princess of the Maze is a fantastic fantasy story, with three very likable and great characters, a flowing fast paced writing style, a terrific plot and story-line, great world-building, and a book I enjoyed a lot. This book is a must read for everyone who likes Greek retellings and if you know the story of the Minotaur and Ariadne with her hero Theseus, this book is even more interesting. I can’t wait to read the next novel in this fantastic series!
Highly recommended!
