The past is back
I was a teenager when in the nineties I suddenly saw Patricia Cornwell books in the library and decided to try them out. About thirty years later and at book 28 in the Scarpetta, I still get super excited the moment a new book is announced and wait for almost a year impatiently till I can go to the bookshop and go back home to just read and read Scarpetta's new story.
The same happened last week when I had a long weekend off and enjoyed reading about Scarpetta being called to retrieve a body. But never would she have expected to find the body of acclaimed astrophysicist Sal Guardano, with whom she ended up having a lifelong friendship.
The murder scene is bizarre, the body seems to have been dropped from an unidentified flying craft. During the autopsy done by Scarpetta, She finds a clue deliberately left for her.
While herself, Lucy and Marino investigate further to give an explanation for her friend's death, the past comes back into their life. It is a past they would prefer not to be reminded of and an evil which always lurks around.
And again in the twenty sixth book it is great to follow Scarpetta in her work, with her family and friends. The only thing I missed a bit is the pure tension in the stories which I adored in the previous Scarpetta books, especially the early ones. I am still reading the book non-stop, adore it and all, but the tension of reading the book in the dark, under the bed cover ....wondering what will happen, who is in the house... I can't wait for the next one!!!
