A > 500p romance that didn't bore me!

LanaR 16 maart 2025
We met Will and Beckett in the first two books, and they almost immediately grabbed my attention. I wanted to get to know them better, and discover their stories. Enter The Charlie Method where you'll experience their humour and banter, flirting, empathy, them being supportive, yet also their trauma and not-so-happy-and-playful sides. Charlie is a layered onion herself, preppy schoolgirl by day, daredevil by night, coming with her own baggage. I found the characters to be well fleshed out and very human. Some fears or actions may have been a little quirky or slightly out of character, but that didn't bother me. I liked how there are different storylines and individual stuff going on throughout the entire book.

The strongest aspect of the book is, in my opinion, that it's over 500 pages long yet doesn't let you lose your focus. It got me hooked from start to finish. The story reads very smoothly thanks to the fluent writing style and likable characters. I almost couldn't put this book down. And that's saying something, because most of the time I strongly dislike it if a romance is over 350 pages long.

The biggest downside for me personally was part of the romance. I'm apparently not feeling so comfortable reading MFM romance, but that's a me thing (plus it kind of felt like it would have made more sense for the boys to feel attracted to each other as well but again, that might be a wrong interpretation of mine). There is however a lot of spice, and that bothered me. Not the level of spiciness, but the amount of it. I felt like some parts of the story, some conversations and events, deserved more attention, or more emotional depth even instead of being pushed to the background by the spice. I would have loved to see more of the group dynamics, of the main characters interacting with their friends and playing hockey.
The ending also left me wanting for just a tad more (not so much in the amount of pages, but in content).

Nevertheless I really enjoyed this book and would certainly recommend it. I'll definitely be reading the other Briar U and Off-campus books (I've read a few of them already, but not all) as well.
