Deadly secrets

Doctor Maggie leaves her house and later that day she sees her own husband, shot through the head, in the E.R. At first she thinks he's been robbed and shot but the police tells her the wound is self inflicted. Maggie is beyond grief and can't believe Will would do something like that.

After the funeral she decides to go their summer house on an island in Croatia, where only two people live (Dragan and his son) and the housekeeper Branko helps her settle in for the week she'll be staying in the house, but then he leaves the island by ferry.

Having just arrived, Maggie receives a letter... from Will! In it she gets clues that her husband's death isn't an accident and that a dark secret from the past is the real reason he's dead. It's now up to her to look for the clues and to find out why he was killed. But then someone seems to break in her house at night and she doesn't feel very safe. And she can't trust anyone anymore! And on top of all that a storm breaks loose, trapping her on the island.

This is a nail biting standalone thriller from one of the most popular authors in Belgium and Holland. Even though he ought to have been an actor, Bryndza decided to direct all his talents to writing and this has been a great choice. He knows how to write a thriller with a fast pace and keeping his readers on the edge of their seat, while trying to discover the truth along with Dr. Maggie!

This was my first time reading a Robert Bryndza novel (I know, I know) but he was recommended to me by my bestie, with whom I share the same taste in thrillers. So I had to listen to her advice. I chose to start with this standalone to get the feel of his writing but I can only say I am eager to start his two series (Erika Foster and Kate Marshall) and get deeper into the world and mind of Robert Bryndza!
