We follow Lor who's been imprisoned for 12 years. She gets freed only to compete in the Sun Queen Trials. Her time in prison doesn't do her any good on the etiquette part of the Trials but she gets help from am unexpected person.
Meanwhile the Sun King and her develop feelings for eachother and Lor gets further and further in the Trials.
Back in Aurora the prince is looking for a missing prisoner only to find her in the land of his enemy.
The story definitely has elements from Throne of Glass, Hunger Games and the bachelor without it feeling like a copy. There are plottwists, its not fast pace but enough happens to have kept me curious. It kept me wanting to read one more page and i immediately ordered the second and the third book. I would definitely recommend this book.
