False Gods – The Fall Begins

ThaFreeze 12 februari 2025
After Horus Rising set the stage, False Gods takes everything to the next level. This second book in the Horus Heresy series delivers exactly what I hoped for—more action, deeper character moments, and the tragic turning point that will change the galaxy forever.

The story continues following Horus and his Luna Wolves (now Sons of Horus), but this time, the cracks in his loyalty to the Emperor really start to show. One of the standout moments for me was learning more about Horus’ origins and, of course, the visions he experiences after his fall. The way these events manipulate him into questioning everything he once stood for was both fascinating and frustrating—because you just know it’s all heading toward disaster.

Loken’s arc was another highlight. His growing doubts and struggle to stay true to himself while everything around him shifts made for some of the best moments in the book. And then there’s the artifact from Horus Rising—what a payoff! Seeing how it plays a role in Horus’ downfall was both satisfying and heartbreaking.

And let’s not forget the Plague Moon saga—eerie, chaotic, and downright epic. It’s a wild part of the book that adds to the sense of doom hanging over everything.

By the time the story reaches its ending, the betrayal is fully set in motion, and you can feel the weight of what’s coming next. The pieces are in place for the inevitable war against the Emperor, and I can’t wait to dive into Galaxy in Flames to see the fallout.

If Horus Rising was about the rise of a legend, False Gods is the moment where it all starts to crumble—and it does so in spectacular fashion. An amazing follow-up that lived up to all my expectations!
