Lezersrecensie
An army of werewolves returns home to England - and brings a curse
A young woman in oldfashioned chique on the cover, with a dirigible in the background. That summarizes an important theme of the book but hardly the most important one.
A curse streaks throuhg London humanizing werewolves and vampires and obliterating ghosts. Alexia Tarabotti follows the curse, her husband and her sense for adventure towards Scotland.
Family business, pack business, kingdom business... and that when she is accompanied by her best friend Ivy, most famous for her bad taste in hats, and her sister who she does not like at all. Her French maid Angelique and an equally French hatmaker complete the company.
After several attempts on her life they reach Scotland where the real troubles begin.
Gail Carriger continues her story featuring the preternatural Alexia in a historical setting which is almost true but then so much a fantasy. Science is just a tad different of the ordinary and minds focus on clothing and etiquette while the beverage that heals all is of course tea.
It is fun with lots of action and witty repartee, but also death, spying, fighting and psychological warfare. At the end a scientific discovery deals a numbing blow to Alexia which makes the reader long for the next novel.
