Lezersrecensie
Egypt, know for its vamires? and a lot of hot sand - fun guaranteed
The cover illustrates the book perfectly. A fascionista in a very uncomfortable dress with a ridiculously small hat against a background of Egypt monuments. Of course, the hot air balloons in the right top corner are entirely imagined by the author.
Although the subtitle mentions vampires, werewolves and mummies, the latter played a much more important role in a previous book. They are now merely a force in the background.
Alexia takes center stage again, so chaos, action and a lot of fun guaranteed.
Gail Carriger spends relatively a lot of paper on the private life of Alexia with close friends and relatives and on the other hand Biffy. As was the case before that involves some sexual insinuating texts but also some live explicit descriptions of bedroom (and other places) adventures. As she has no problem at mixing species (werewolves, ghosts, vampires and humans) she does not judge. On the contrary, homosexual acts get a lot of attention.
The actual story, which covers now 5 books, focuses on tracing back the path that Alexia's father walked many years before. That leads to Egypte but is obscured by a Beta that gets murdered, a Beta that almost gets killed by a rivalling Alpha, a young daughter that takes werewolve and vampire shapes after a simple touch, travel by water and by aire, a kidnapping, meeting the oldest vampire on earth and so many other events that seem to accompany Alexia wherever she goes.
Thrilling and fun at the same time, geving a weird view on actual history with more that a little twist.
It is recommended to read the books in order since often previous events are referred to and that would be spoilers when the books are read in a different order.
The author deserves special recommendation for making her characters lifelike and completely believable while being complete out of character with the stereotypes.
