When hockey goalie Jason in Celebration on Ice by Kerry Evelyn has to become a backup goalie for a hockey team in another city, he wants (or insists?} that his girlfriend Lauren comes along. But she loves her teaching job and just can’t drop everything, something Jason does not understand, with the result a break-up. Months later both are miserable and friends step in to bring them back together.
This book was such a rollercoaster in emotions. As a reader you can understand Jason, for he loves Lauren and wants them to be together, but the words he uses are a bit harsh. And Lauren loves her job. The dual POV makes that you can understand how they feel. I wanted them to be together. Jason and Lauren are very likable characters. When they try again, Jason tries to do his best, but falls in his old habits, and that was so sad to read. I could almost yell at him.
The writing style is flowing and the book is easy to read. It is a third book in a series, but you can easily read this book even if you did not read the earlier books, as I have. The theme, a second chance at love in a hockey setting I just loved. You can tell the author loves the hockey game, for that really shows. The description of the game, the enthusiasm of the crowd, the tough game playing, it all comes across very well. Sometimes it felt like I could see it before my eyes.
There are some really moving scenes in the book and the one at the end was really so romantic.
Celebration on Ice is a sweet hockey romance story, with two very likable characters who just belong together, with a flowing writing style, with humour, drama and romance, a story I enjoyed reading a lot.
